GAM projects in KenyaKenya is currently the most developed country in East Africa. Despite this, Kenya is a very unequal country with very high levels of poverty. GAM asbl’s projects are developed in the most marginalised and poorest places, such as the desert region where the Samburu and Turkana tribes live. There is no drinking water, no electricity, no good access roads, no food security. These are territories with great security problems and many limitations. GAM asbl hs become a fundamental support for local communities in Kenya in general, and in Tuum in particular, where great progress has been made in terms of development and human dignity: Construction of a multi-purpose hall in Tuum (2024): This hall has helped enormously in the development of many leadership and women’s empowerment projects and programmes, multiple peace and reconciliation programmes and meetings that have enabled us to establish bonds of communion and fraternity between the Samburu and Turkana people. So far it is the only hall equipped for meetings in the Tuum community… Construction of a residence to support the development of community projects (2014-2019): The construction of this residence responds to a community need to accommodate visitors from other communities and organisations to develop community projects. Installations of solar electricity systems in GAM-financed infrastructures (2020): One of the limitations of the installation in these areas is that they do not yet have electricity supply from the state, which is why they rely on possible mechanisms (solar panels) to generate energy to improve the quality of life of the local communities. This project has ensured that they have power 24 hours a day without interruption. Construction and fitting out of a bakery for a groupof three Samburu women (2022):
The bakery project has radically improved the quality of life of these three families; generating stability in their finances and food security in their homes, and most importantly, they have diversified the supply of products that previously had to be brought from other places to the community of Tuum. The impact has been really positive in the community and has generated that other groups of people feel interested in developing common projects that generate stability and economic dynamism in the local communities…
